Whether you’re new to Social Thinking or a veteran in using our materials, Social Thinking and Me is the perfect tool to introduce and teach core Social Thinking Vocabulary and concepts to older elementary school and middle school-age kids (ages 9-13). This two-book set breaks larger and more complicated social concepts down into smaller chunks to make it easier for adults to teach and easier for kids to learn.

      What's in the Two-Book Set?

      Social Thinking and Me Kids Guidebook

      Book 1, "The Kids' Guidebook for Social Emotional Learning" is written in kid-friendly language with cool illustrated pictures. In each of the 11 chapters, kids are introduced to new Social Thinking Vocabulary and concepts that help them think through the behavioural expectations embedded in social situations. Alongside the concepts, the book also offers strategies that give kids the tools needed to solve social problems or figure out ways to act in expected ways in different social situations. At the end of each chapter is a "pointer" that sends the reader over to the Thinksheets book, where children and adults find mini-lesson plans in the form of thinksheets that help them explore these new social concepts in true-to-life scenarios and situations to help them connect to their own experiences. The guidebook is written for kids to use under the guidance of an adult.

        Social Thinking and Me Thinksheets

        Book 2, "Social Thinking and Me Thinksheets for Social Emotional Learning", provides comprehensive instructions to adults on how to use the two books as a curriculum. This book also houses over 50 thinksheets - 54 to be precise! - that expand on the concepts introduced in the kids' guidebook. Each thinksheet is tied to and supports a specific chapter from the guidebook and helps kids learn to better understand how the concepts relate to them in their everyday lives. There are a minimum of three thinksheets per chapter to encourage conversation and provide the practice kids need in figuring out how the concepts from the kids' guidebook apply to them.

        Topics include:

        • An introduction to Social Thinking
        • Why it’s important in helping children learn to think about and navigate social situations
        • The social-academic connection
        • How to teach the concepts and chapters
        • A glossary of the Social Thinking Vocabulary
        • Letter to parents/caregivers that educators can use

          Both books are meant to be used under the guidance of an adult (parent, teacher, clinician, etc.) so that kids and adults can engage in the thinking process together. The books are also meant to be used by all stakeholders on the child’s team to ensure that everyone is on the same page with the concepts taught and learning is carried over into all environments. Together, the two-book set is a powerhouse of social knowledge to teach children valuable Social Thinking concepts that will help them transition into the more socially-complex and socially-demanding middle and high school grades.     

          Ties into Other Social Thinking Products for Younger and Older Kids

          This two-book set can stand on its own to teach Social Thinking to all students in grades 4-7 as part of a school-wide Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) initiative. It also pairs beautifully with other Social Thinking books and games for that age range.

You can jump right into Social Thinking and Me to keep students learning about Social Thinking concepts and to deepen their understanding of working in a group, hanging out with friends, figuring out expected/ unexpected behaviour, and being a better social problem solver. When using You Are a Social Detective, the Superflex curriculum and Social Thinking and Me in sequence, you have a scope and sequence of helping students learn about themselves and others, all while learning to self-regulate their own behaviour.
